I have a 2002 Miata and I want to get new speakers for both doors. I have a stock non-Bose stereo which outputs 25 per channel. So if anyone could recommend any good speakers that will sound clear with a good amount of bass. Thanks

Doesn't matter what we think is good, it's what sounds good to you that matters. Seems like you're looking for a nice full range speaker, the go to around here seems to be the Lanzar VX830 for a direct fit replacement "upgrade". Can't go wrong with any of the main brands that you have heard of available at most retail stores or car audio shops, stay away from the "off brand" stuff that you will find at most Auto Zone, O'Rileys, Advance Auto, etc. as they all tend to sound super "tinny" or ear piercing.

Geez, I remember Lanzar being the Flee Market special....was ultra bottom of the barrel stuff.

I did a Boseectomy on my 2001, installed Lanzars....great speakers for the $$$$$

Thanks I'm gonna look into these. Another set of speakers I was looking into and others with Miata say they go good are the Polk dv571.

Go to an auto stereo shop and listen to speakers. Even bring the type of music you generally listen to so you can judge the stuff you like.

When I did my Bosectomy, I went with Alpine, and am pleased.

These Lanzars seem really good especially for the price but the peak is 400 watts and my stereo only outputs 25w so I won't be using close to that much, the rms is 200 watts. Or do you think it will sound nice?

I definitely recommend going with component 8" and tweeters. Hardly more difficult and much better overall sound, especially with the top down. 8" woofers are a direct fit in the NB and there's tons of depth in the doors to install just about anything you want. Build thread with pictures (https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=610330).

I chose the Clearwater components: http://www.clearwateraudio.com/product.html

Custom fit for Miata. Very easy to install and they sound great.

They are, however, expensive.

If you want the "Best speakers"

Focal Utopia if best means most expensive @ $24,000

A few steps down
Hybrid Audio Technologies Lagatia X
Morel Supremo
Audison k2

A few steps down would be

JL Audio has a new C7 line
Hertz has their Mille Legen/Pro line (I use a older version of the Ori)

Thus really depends on what you mean by best speakers

In regards to RMS power, it's a pretty worthless number, you can blow a 200w speaker with a 25w amp just like you can blow that same 200w speaker with a 1,000w amp. I actually feel it's easier to blow a speaker with low power vs high power. Chances are you won't have enough bass with aftermarket speakers which results in turning up he volume more and more. This results in sending a clipped signal to the speak and in time a dead speaker. Best and safest thing to do is but a small amp with descent power and add that with new speaker

I have those Lanzars in my NB and I would not believe their rating at all!
Id say two days of them being on an amp pushing 100w per door the tweeters gave up the ghost. The mid drivers sound very good with a stand alone tweeter.
For someone running headunit power or even a smaller amp they would be perfect if you're on a budget.

I have the lanzars in my 99 and with my Kenwood head unit at 22 watts RMS power they are perfect for just about every driving situation. On the highway above 60 with the top down you have to crank them up but they still sound good. I however am getting older and I can only take the radio and wind noise for so long. On the twisty back roads around 40 or 50 is much more enjoyable.
