Vintage Christmas cookie recipe pages make fantastic holiday decor. They’re also ideal for numerous DIY Christmas projects.

Vintage Christmas cookie recipe pages have a whimsical charm that you simply can’t find in modern cookbooks. Antique book pages are ideal for one-of-a-kind wall art. They’re also perfect for a wide range of craft projects, such as greeting cards, Christmas ornaments, art/junk journals, scrapbooking, decoupage, and home decor.

It’s not a secret that I’m crazy about the look of vintage book pages, including hymn books and dictionaries. I’ve rolled out antique textbook and primer pages as well, including French and algebra. The Christmas cookie book I’m featuring here is the first (though certainly not the last) cookbook I’m releasing.

The vintage Christmas cookie book I’m featuring in this post is from 1949. It has a dozen hand drawn illustrations, lots of insight on the art and science of baking cookies, and a bit of personal narrative.

I’ve created free printables for 24 full vintage cookbook pages, with separate 8×10 formats intended specifically for wall art and other framed pieces. I’m also offering the hand drawn illustrations in both PNG and JPG formats. Enjoy!

How to use vintage book pages and illustrations

Most likely, if you’re looking for vintage book pages to print or transform digitally, you already have ideas for yourself, your kids, or your classroom or have a DIY project in progress. If you’re simply looking for inspiration or thinking about other ideas for your new printables, consider one or more of the following projects.

• DIY wall art. One of the most popular ways to use antique book pages is to make your own wall decor. Vintage Christmas cookbook pages make lovely decor on their own for living rooms, kitchens, and more. You can also overlay virtually any PNG or transparent background image onto a vintage book page and/or overlay it with text to make one-of-a-kind wall art.
• Christmas ornaments. Vintage book pages and illustrations are perfect for all sorts of Christmas ornament craft projects for your own tree, to sell at craft fairs, and to gift to family, friends, and teachers.
• Greeting cards. I know everyone makes photo cards for the holidays these days. However, I love creating my own cards and then including a few printed family pictures. Vintage Christmas pages and illustrations are great for this type of project.
• Glass or bottle cap magnets, using the technique that I perfected for my sheet music glass magnets.

• Tile coasters, using the method that I developed for my vintage sheet music botanical coasters. The book pages are perfect as is and can also be overlaid with illustrations, phrases, Christmas song lyrics, or holiday quotes/phrases.
• Art journals or mixed media projects. Layer stamps, ink, paint, and more over vintage book pages to create whimsical art/junk journal pages, scripture/prayer journal pages, or mixed media art.
• Scrapbooking. Antique book pages are ideal backgrounds for both physical and digital scrapbooks. They’re also perfect for DIY scrapbook embellishments, especially holiday-themed embellishments.

About the free vintage Christmas cookie recipe pages

I’ve made the vintage cookbook pages available in the following formats.

• Original ratio full book pages. The original ratio pages are just as I saved them after scanning and editing them. You get completely control over exactly how you’d like to crop and format the pages for varying projects and wall decor.
• 8×10 ratio book pages, with and without white borders. I know that many people arriving at this post are interested in creating wall art in 8×10 format. Having pages in this format already makes it quick and easy to create wall decor. I’ve created versions with and without white borders to appeal to different framing styles and aesthetic preferences.

I’ve also made the illustrations from these pages available in both PNG and JPG formats to give you maximum flexibility for your creative projects.

You may use the vintage cookie recipe pages for as many personal projects as you like, including classroom use. You may also use them for limited commercial runs (5,000 items or less) of digital and physical items. The original ratio full book pages are just as I saved them after I scanned and edited them. They give you full control for cropping and formatting the text and illustrations exactly as you need them for varying projects.

There are 24 pages total. In addition to lots of cookie recipes, there are pages with cookie baking and decorating tips as well as personal narrative.

I’ve split the pages into four ZIP folders for easier downloading.

8×10 ratio full book pages

Vintage book pages in 8×10 format are ready to print for simple, quick, unique wall decor. I’ve made versions with and without white borders. Depending on the aesthetic you want to achieve and the frame you choose for your art, you may prefer one version over the other.

I’ve created 8×10 versions of six pages from the Christmas cookie recipe collection. If there are additional pages you’d like in 8×10 format, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m happy to create them for you.

Illustrations

The Christmas cookie recipe book includes 12 hand drawn illustrations, which are as follows: angel, cardamom seed, cinnamon, ginger, honey, mace, springerle board, star anise, vanilla, and several kinds of cookies. There are so many fun ways you can use these illustrations. I’ve made the entire set of illustrations available in PNG and JPG format.

Extracting and downloading the full ZIP folders

I’ve created ZIP folders for all of the vintage Christmas cookie recipes and illustrations. Zipped folders allow me to offer high-resolution files and to protect said files from potential theft. Extracting and downloading the ZIP folders from Google Drive is a fairly straightforward process. Please note that it may take a little time to get each folder downloaded in full, especially the book page sets.

• When you click on the download link, select the Open with ZIP Extractor option at the top of the page.
• The folder will open in a new window. The files will download.
• Once the files have downloaded, click Extract Now.
• When the files have extracted and uploaded, click View Extracted Files.
• Double click on the folder.
• To download, select the files you wish to download. Click the three horizontal dots More Actions button. Choose Download.
• Follow the prompts on the download screen.

I recommend moving your downloaded files out of your downloads folder and into your main photos folder. I also recommend making a second copy on an external hard drive or cloud storage drive. Keep your files in a folder labeled “Vintage Christmas Cookie Recipes and Illustrations” or something similar, so you can find them easily.

Now you’re ready to create unique, whimsical Christmas decor and craft projects!

Printing antique cookbook pages and illustrations

When you use old book pages to make wall art, my personal recommendation for at-home printing is Finestra Art Paper. I used Finestra paper to print the vintage dictionary pages in the above image. The paper’s acid-free, matte surface dries ink quickly, creating crisp, vivid images. Regular printer paper, card stock, and presentation paper do work, too. However, the results they produce aren’t quite as nice. It’s worth spending a little more on the right paper for the job to make beautiful book page decor with a professional finish.

For all other journal and DIY projects, I use white card stock. When you’re including book page elements in greeting cards, scrapbook embellishments, and mixed media pieces, it’s not important that the pages look so vibrant. For magnets, pendant necklaces, and tile coasters, you won’t be able to tell any difference under multiple coats of Mod Podge or diamond glaze.
