Connie Britton, born Constance Elaine Womack, made a notable name for herself in the acting industry in the 1990s, starring in the 1995 romantic comedy "The Brothers McCullen." The independent film, written and directed by Edward Burns, became her big break.

It coincided with the end of a marital union between herself and her college sweetheart, making the success bittersweet. Still, it paved the way for a successful career. This year, she's starring in the Apple TV+ show "Dear Edward."

Starring alongside Colin O'Brien and "Orange Is the New Black" star Taylor Schilling, the novel-adapted series—written by Ann Napolitano—about a 12-year-old lone survivor of a plane crash promises to be "heartbreaking" and yet "life-affirming."

Among other TV credits under Britton's name is the acclaimed music drama "Nashville," where she played Rayna Jaymes alongside actress Hayden Panettiere. She also starred with Jennifer Coolidge in "The White Lotus," directed by Aubrey Plaza's husband, Jeff Baena.

Like Plaza, who surprised her fans with a subtle marriage revelation in 2021, Britton kept her love life hidden from the spotlight. There isn't much known about it or her former husband, but she has been open about being a mother to a life-loving Ethiopian boy.

The following month they were seen being publicly affectionate as they kissed and held hands. The alleged couple kept their relationship under wraps but were spotted again leaving LA International Airport and wearing coordinated baseball caps last August.

It's unclear when their relationship began, but the first sighting occurred shortly after Windsor had separated from his wife. The producer and his former spouse shared two children named Archie and Tilly.

Connie Britton Used to Be Married, but Her Marriage Lasted Only Four Years

The Boston native married her college sweetheart, investment banker John Britton, in 1991. The pair, who met while studying at Dartmouth College, divorced in 1995. Though the "Spin City" star rarely spoke about her relationship with her ex-husband, she said their separation was difficult.

During a 2009 interview with Redbook Magazine, she reflected on how young she was (24 years old) when she tied the knot. Fourteen years after her marriage's end, Britton felt she "grew and changed a lot," adding:

"Divorce is hard. I was about 29 when my husband and I split up. I think we probably fared better than most, because we were young and didn’t have kids — but divorce is hard."

The actress didn't delve into the details of the legal dissolution. Her ex also stayed out of the spotlight after their split. Besides Britton's romantic link to the investment banker and Windsor, she was also previously linked to Jason Mantzoukas.

In 2019, during an appearance on "Busy Tonight," Britton divulged some humorous details about her friendship with longtime actress Julia Roberts. She confessed to host Busy Philipps that Roberts had tried to find her a date. However, as she explained:

"It hasn't worked out yet. At least mama tried, you know what I’m saying."

Connie Britton's Family Is Her Adopted Son Eyob

Britton didn't know how full her hands would be when she became a mother on top of being a full-time actress. She was born with a fraternal twin, who became her only family after her parents passed away some years before 2011. The loss was significant, as she reflected:

"And, in truth, both of my parents had passed away within three years, and suddenly I was like: 'Oh, no. My family is no more.' I mean, I have a twin sister, but that was a big loss, losing my parents. And I wasn't in a relationship that felt like it was going to be a marriage relationship."

That's when she decided to act on her longtime desire for motherhood, which took her almost three years to achieve. Her son, Eyob "Yoby" Britton, was born in February 2011, but she took over his care in November of that year when he was nine months old.

Eyob's arrival coincided with Britton starting her work in "Nashville" and relocating to the city where she had to rely on herself and her instincts as a first-time mom. She admitted that taking on motherhood was ambitious and confessed:

"And so I was like, 'What am I waiting for? I know I want to adopt. I can do this.' But that was a little delusional because it turns out it's a really hard thing to do, but I would only encourage anybody to do it. You can do it!"

Eventually, Britton got the hang of things and has been dedicated to ensuring that Eyob is aware of his ethnic background. Apart from having discussions with the youngster about his roots, she also takes him on frequent visits to his home country.

Britton is also aware of the racial discrimination her son is likely to experience in the United States. Despite wanting to "really nurture his love for who he is," as a young Black boy, she acknowledged that the complexity of the reality he may face as he grows older is beyond her understanding as a white person.

Still, Britton declared herself as a fiercely protective mama bear who wouldn't allow any harm toward her son. She gushed about the soon-to-be 12-year-old in 2017 as she talked about his curious nature and love of life.
