Ingredients in the best pasta fa*gioli soup recipe

Ready to try your hand at pasta fa*giloi? Below is a list of everything you’ll need to bring it together.

  • Olive oil: First up for this recipe is 2 tbsp of olive oil. This will be used to cook the vegetables.
  • Vegetables: For the vegetables themselves, you will need 1/2 large white onion, 3 carrots, and 3 ribs of celery. Be sure to dice all of these before adding to the pot.
  • Garlic: Next, use 3 cloves of minced garlic to flavor the dish.
  • Turkey sausage: 1 lb of turkey sausage will serve as the protein source in this recipe (alongside the beans). You can use Italian sausage or ground beef if preferred.
  • Herbs: Flavor the dish with 1 tsp each of dried oregano, basil, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  • Beans: As for the beans, we will use 1 14oz can each of cannellini beans and dark red kidney beans (you do not have to drain).
  • Tomatoes: Next, throw in 1 14oz can of diced tomatoes. They can be with or without green chilies — your preference!
  • Tomato sauce: Thicken up the dish a bit with 1 15oz can of tomato paste.
  • Vegetable broth: Next, turn this dish into a soup by adding 8 cups of vegetable broth. That should equal two boxes. You can also use chicken broth.
  • Parsley: Add some fresh herby flavor with 1/4 cup of fresh parsley.
  • Pasta noodles: As for the pasta, use 6oz of ditalini. You can use any small pasta shape, like elbow macaroni, but I always use ditalini.
  • Parmesan: 1/4 cup of grated parmesan is a great final touch.
  • Toppings: Top each bowl of pasta fa*gioli with more parmesan and pesto to taste.
